Hi, I'm Jerome Wootton. A Graphic Designer based in Wolverhampton.
Tangible Typography
Experimental designs for exhibition. Tangible / ˈtan(d)ʒɪb(ə)l / (adjective): capable of being touched; discernable by the touch; material or substantial. “The relationship between writing and design is often underestimated. Writers use their creative abilities to imagine spaces and paint pictures with words in the same way that designers interpret words and contextualise meaning through aesthetics; the two disciplines should be inseparable.” From: Words at Play II: Exhibition statement, Marc Austin 2014. In the past 3 years the university have collaborated twice with Creative Writing students from Manchester Metropolitan University, creating visual responses to their written work. The resulting designs provided a visual backdrop and small exhibition for their ‘Words at Play’ festival – celebrating poetry, performance and readings from the students. In a new proposed collaboration with BA (Hons) Creative and Professional Writing at Wolverhampton, I had to produce a narrative piece of artwork that involves 'tangible' to feature and form a similar backdrop for a local Artsfest event in June 2016. I have created an interpretive experimental composition using the supplied range of short stories and pieces of experimental writing. The work I have produced has been themed around tangible typography, experimentation and creativity, but also visual impact for exhibition.
